U-2 Management Directorate and Robbins-Gioia Launch U-2 Units into Another Realm

The U-2, one of the Air Force’s most unique weapons systems, is a single-seat, high-altitude reconnaissance airplane capable of collecting multi-sensor photo, electro-optic, infrared, and radar imagery of enemy countries. For more than 40 years, the U-2 Management Directorate has provided support for the many global organizations involved in operating and maintaining the U-2 fleet, offering help in logistics, financial planning, acquisition, contracting, system maintenance support, and system engineering. During that time, the directorate accomplished its hallenging mission by relying on little more than paper, filing cabinets and, more recently, fax machines and e-mail. Because of increased mission requirements, this low-tech environment was beginning to take its toll. The directorate asked Robbins-Gioia to incorporate a program management/configuration control tracking tool into a Web-based environment using interactive Web pages.

RESULT: The deployment and implementation of the new system has launched U-2 units into another realm. Now, various agencies are informed via hyperlinks and Web-based forms when approval or coordination is required, and the status of each project is constantly displayed..
