LUCK SOA= Opportunity + Preparedness

SOA (service-oriented architecture) is a hot topic, but organizations that jump on the bandwagon without thinking through the implications are likely to be disappointed. Not long ago, I reached out to a much more widely known colleague of mine for a quote on the subject. His reply surprised me a bit. “It’s all talk,” he said. Of course, much of this “talk” is about building awareness and understanding. What does it mean to leverage information technology for transformation? How does an organization know whether or not it is up to the task? Where to start? Making a commitment to SOA involves opportunity, preparation, and follow-through. The organization must coordinate a continuum of strategic, tactical, and operational disciplines to move SOA from concept to operational reality.
