Harnessing Program Management to Empower State and Local Governments
Situation: the district of columbia department of employment services, a provider of work-related services to city residents, was faced with a hard deadline to manage several interdependent projects, including mainframe application rewrites and migration of data centers. With the help of an outside program management consultant, the city was able to successfully manage the rewrites and migration to completion.

Situation: the michigan department of transportation was required to redesign its business processes to meet increased federal requirements and deliver more products with fewer employees. Mdot’s goal was to let 90 percent of its projects each fiscal year during the first two quarters. With the help of an outside program management consultant, the state now has the ability to monitor progress toward that goal and make changes as needed to when specific projects are going to be let. The state modeled its design process using a pm application, which has enabled it to do more with less.
