An Ounce of Prevention Averts a Pound of Obsolescence
At a time when software application
companies are being acquired
at an increasing rate, the
chance of your company’s software
products being affected is
very likely. Since 1999, organizations
like IBM and Oracle have
been on a steady upward trend
of acquiring different software
and solution companies. Oracle
acquired 13 organizations in
2005 alone, and IBM acquired
10 during the same time. There
is no reason to believe that
this trend is going to end any
time soon. The more companies
merge or are acquired, the higher
the chances that the software
your organization uses, is or will
soon be obsolete. In addition
to the mergers and acquisitions
of software and product companies,
hardware organizations
like Microsoft and Oracle are
making the decision to service
newer versions of their products,
despite the amount of
companies that are still running
older versions.
