Records and information management (RIM) is a lot more complex than most people realize. I once had a client who frequently told me, “It’s not rocket science—it’s just records management.” Well, rockets would not get very far without a solid RIM program. If scientists did not bother to keep track of the most current reports, accurate algorithms, and testing and collaboration documentation, they would spend their time reinventing the rocket booster instead of planning how to go to Mars.
