CBP Modernization Office Achieves New Heights in Project Management

February 23, 2004, Alexandria, VA The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Modernization Office (CBPMO) has attained a Level 2 rating for the Software Engineering Institute’s Software Acquisition Capability Maturity Model (SA-CMM®). This makes the CBPMO the first civilian government organization to achieve such a rigorous rating for project management.

The Software Acquisition Capability Maturity Model is a management tool designed to make software acquisition and management easier and more accountable by creating a sound organizational structure for managing system acquisition projects. It was developed in 1996 by representatives from the Department of Defense, several civilian government agencies, and private industry under the leadership of Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute.

Robbins-Gioia’s process improvement and quality assurance team has worked with the CBPMO to develop and institutionalize policies, plans, processes, and procedures to achieve process maturity for the past two years.
